Swine Flu

Ohio’s first case of the swine influenza was confirmed in Lorain County on Sunday, April 26. As a part of Community Health Partners’ commitment to caring for the health of our community, we are working with the Lorain County Office of Emergency Management to take proactive measures should additional cases be reported.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, symptoms of the swine flu are similar to the symptoms of regular human flu and include:

  • Fever of 102-103 F
  • Cough
  • Sore throat
  • Body aches
  • Headache
  • Chills
  • Fatigue
  • Loss of apetite
Additionally, the CDC offers the following advice to prevent the spread of any type of influenza:
  • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hands cleaners are also effective.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread that way.
  • Influenza is thought to spread mainly person-to-person through coughing or sneezing of infected people.
  • If you get sick, CDC recommends that you stay home from work or school and limit contact with others to keep from infecting
