Ways to Give - Today and Tomorrow

Outright gifts of cash or appreciated assets are always welcome. Donors may designate their gifts for specific purposes or allow them to remain unrestricted so that they may be used to meet the health system's greatest needs. Particular tax advantages may accrue to donors of appreciated stocks, property or other assets.

Gifts of Cash
This is the easiest method of investing in Mercy Health Partners. Donors receive an immediate charitable income tax deduction. Simply mail your check or money order to:

Mercy Health Partners Foundation
900 E. Oak Hill Avenue
Knoxville, TN 37917

Matching Gifts
Many companies will match gifts made by their employees and associates. Matching gifts multiply the benefits to our community and patients we serve.

Memorial and Tribute Gifts
Gifts to Mercy Health Partners Foundation in memory or in honor of someone require no minimum dollar amount and may be given as a tribute to an individual, family, or hospital department. A card will be sent to the person you indicate informing them of your gift, without mention of the amount. Memorial and honor gifts may be designated for a particular program or to support the Foundation endowment for use in areas of greatest need.

Deferred Gifts
Many donors accomplish their charitable goals while managing their tax burden through effective estate planning. Wills, trusts, gift annuities and insurance policies are all effective tools for making charitable contributions. Estate planning usually requires the assistance of legal counsel or the guidance of other qualified professionals. The Mercy Health Partners Foundation publishes a quarterly planned giving newsletter called The Mustard Seed. Click here to receive this free publication.

If you would like to include Mercy Health Partners in your estate planning, the Foundation staff can arrange a meeting with the appropriate professional(s) to assist you with that gift arrangement.

The Foundation can work with donors in developing any of the following:

Bequests
By naming Mercy Health Partners Foundation in a will, donors may save on estate and inheritance taxes while ensuring a stronger future for Mercy Health Partners. Donors may wish to leave a percentage of their estate, a specific dollar amount, or some other asset such as property to Mercy Health Partners.

Charitable Remainder Trusts
Charitable Remainder Trusts and Gift Annuities are an excellent way to use appreciated property, cash, or securities to provide a dependable lifelong income while satisfying the donor's philanthropic desire. Trusts and annuities pay an annual income to the donor and/or beneficiary, and the donor secures an immediate charitable income tax deduction while avoiding capital gains taxes and removing assets from the donors estate. After the donor's death, the annual income from the corpus benefits a designated area of need in the hospital or the general Foundation endowment.

Gifts of Insurance
Donors may designate Mercy Health Partners as the beneficiary of all or part of a life insurance policy. Donors need only transfer ownership of the policy to the Foundation and name Mercy Health Partners as the beneficiary. Donors then make tax-deductible contributions each year to keep the policy in force.
