Hip Aspiration or Hip Arthogram
Procedure time
10-15 min.
Purpose
To assess and diagnose the presence of infection in hip joint.
Procedure
- Patient goes directly to radiology.
- Patient is placed on table, and the hip area is cleaned and scrubbed.
- The Physician sticks a needle into the hip joint and draws off fluid to be sent to Lab.
- If ordered, the physician may inject a steroid or isotope for a Nuclear Medicine study.
- The needle is then removed and the patient is released to go home.
Hip Arthogram
- Contrast will be injected and films obtained.
- Needle is removed and patient is released to go home.
