Infusion of Thrombolytic Agent

Procedure Time
45 min.-1 hour

Purpose
To evaluate and restore blood flow to the extremities and to document the findings with radiographic filming.

Procedure

  • After having an arteriogram and it has been determined that there is restricted or no blood flow to a specific area, the next step would be infusion of thrombolytic agent.
  • Proper consents must be obtained.
  • Lab work will be confirmed and infusions devices chosen.
  • Radiologist will explain this to the patient.
  • After infusion catheter is in place, the thrombolytic agent is now ready to start infusing.
  • Patient will have to go to a critical care bed for monitoring and he or she will be brought to Special Procedures the following day to check on the result of the agent.
  • Sometimes the patient will have to come back for another evaluation of infusion.
  • When infusion is complete, patient will return to critical care bed until sheath can be removed, then the patient can be put in a regular room where he remains at bed rest for at least 12 hours.
