Invasive Retrieval of Foreign Body
Procedure time
30-45 min.
Purpose
To remove foreign body from the blood vessels, or an organ.
Procedure
- Patient is sent to IPU for labs, IVs and prep, then taken to Special Procedures.
- Physician will fluoro to locate foreign body.
- Then physician will stick groin and insert snare or basket to retrieve foreign body.
- After examination, sheath will be removed, pressure applied to stick site, and a Band-Aid or pressure dressing will be applied.
- Patient will then go to the IPU for bed rest for 4-6 hours.
- Patient must have someone drive them home.
