Mechanical Thrombectomy

Procedure Time
30-45 min.

Purpose
To evaluate and treat emboli in dialysis grafts and various vessels in the body.

Procedure

  • Patient is taken to the IPU for shave, prep, IVs and labs drawn. Patient is then sent to Special Procedures.
  • Radiologist will discuss procedure and answer any questions.
  • Patient is then placed on table and prepped for Radiologist to access region of interest to insert sheath for introduction of thrombolytic device.
  • Device is advanced up both sides and clot macerated as much as possible.
  • Device is removed and contrast injections will be made with X-ray images to confirm results.
  • If no complications occur, catheter will be removed and pressure held for 15 minutes or until the bleeding stops.
  • Radiologist to determine if patient to be observed after sheath is pulled. Discharge as per Radiologist.
