Arch Arteriogram
Procedure time
30-45 min.
Purpose
To detect aortic injury, aneurysm, dissections or diverticula.
Procedure
- Patient sent to IPU for prep,shave, IVs and labs drawn. Patient is then taken to Special Procedures.
- Radiologist will then discuss procedure with patient and answer any questions.
- Physician will access the femoral artery (stick groin), a catheter will be advanced to the aortic arch .
- Contrast will be injected and a series of pictures will be taken.
- After the exam is complete, sheath will be removed and pressure held at stick site for abotu 15 minutes or until bleeding stops.
- A Band-aid or dressing will be applied.
- Patient will then return to IPU for complete bed rest and observation for about 4-6 hours.
- Patient must have someone drive them home
