Percutaneous Fibrin Sheath Stripping

Procedure time
30-45 min.

Purpose
To diagnose and strip any clot or substance accumulation on catheter, porta cath, infusion port, etc.

Procedure

  • Patient is sent to IPU for labs, IV, groin is shaved, and then sent to Special Procedures.
  • Physician will do a hand injection for detection of clot of catheter.
  • Physician will the stick needle into groin area, run a snare catheter up to snare the catheter and strip several times.
  • When the case is complete the catheter will be pulled and pressure held to form clot over access site.
  • Patient will then be sent to IPU for 4-6 hours.
  • Patient is then sent home for bed rest after procedure.
  • Patient must have someone drive them home.
