Renal Arteriogram

Procedure Time
30-45 min.

Purpose
To check for blockages of renal arteries and check renal function

Procedure

  • Patient sent to IPU for shave, prep, IVs and labs drawn. Patient then sent to Special Procedures.
  • Radiologist will discuss procedure and answer any questions.
  • Patient is then placed on the table and prepped for Radiologist to access femoral artery, insert catheter and advance it to the level of the renal arteries.
  • Contrast injections will be made with X-ray images.
  • If no complications occur, catheter will be removed and pressure held for 15 minutes or until bleeding stops.
  • Patient will be sent to IPU for bed rest and frequent monitoring for 4-6 hours.
  • Patient must have someone drive them home.
  • Patient should take their Blood Pressure medications before coming in, and should bring their medication with them.
