Upper Extremity Venogram

Procedure Time
30-45 min.

Purpose
To evaluate emboli or occlusion in the upper extremity venous system.

Procedure:

  • Patient is taken to IPU for IVs and labs drawn. Patient is then sent to Special Procedures.
  • Patient meets with the Radiologist to discuss the procedure and answer any questions.
  • Patient is prepped for the procedure.
  • Venous access is obtained depending on area of interest.
  • Contrast is injected and digital images are obtained to evaluate venous system.
  • After the study, IV is removed and pressure is held until bleeding stops.
  • Patient must wait 30 minutes after injection of contrast before leaving to assure no contrast reaction.
