Procedure Time
30 min.
Purpose
To check blood flow and size, and rule out tumors.
Procedure
- Patient is taken to IPU for shave, prep, IVs and labs drawn. Patient is then sent to Special Procedures.
- Radiologist will then speak with patient about the procedure and answer any questions.
- Patient is placed on the table.
- Physician will stick groin, insert catheter up into Vena Cava and inject contrast (or X-ray dye).
- Sheath will be removed and pressure will be applied to groin to clot for about 10 minutes.
- Patient will return to IPU for 4-6 hours for observation and bed rest.
- Patient must have someone drive them home.
