Arch with Subclavian Arteriogram
Procedure time
30-45 min.
Purpose
To diagnose vascular abnormalities in the arterial vessels originating from the aortic arch, specifically the subclavian arteries.
Procedure
- Patient is sent to IPU for shave, prep, IVs and labs drawn. Patient is then taken to Special Procedures.
- Radiologist will speak with patient about the procedure and answer any questions.
- Patient is then placed on the table.
- Physician will access femoral artery and place a catheter into the aortic arch.
- Contrast will be injected as X-ray pictures are taken.
- At completion of exam, sheath will be removed and pressure will be applied at groin site for approximately 15 minutes or until bleeding is stopped.
- A Band-aid or dressing will be applied.
- Patient will be on bed rest for the next 4-6 hours in the IPU.
- Patient must have someone drive them home.
