AV Shuntogram

Procedure Time
30-45 min.

Purpose
Evaluate emboli or other abnormality in shunt.

Procedure

• Patient is taken to IPU for IVs and labs drawn. Patient is then sent to Special Procedures.
  
• Radiologist will discuss procedure and answer questions.
  
• Patient is then placed on the table so that arm of insert is in view for imaging.
  
• Patient is prepped for procedure.
  
• Radiologist accesses graft and contrast is injected and digital images are made.
  
• Graft may be accessed on both the arterial and venous sides in the same manor.
  
• IVs are removed and pressure held until bleeding stops.
  
• Patient must wait 30 minutes after injection of contrast before leaving to assure no contrast reaction occurs.
