AV Shuntogram
Procedure Time
30-45 min.
Purpose
Evaluate emboli or other abnormality in shunt.
Procedure
- Patient is taken to IPU for IVs and labs drawn. Patient is then sent to Special Procedures.
- Radiologist will discuss procedure and answer questions.
- Patient is then placed on the table so that arm of insert is in view for imaging.
- Patient is prepped for procedure.
- Radiologist accesses graft and contrast is injected and digital images are made.
- Graft may be accessed on both the arterial and venous sides in the same manor.
- IVs are removed and pressure held until bleeding stops.
- Patient must wait 30 minutes after injection of contrast before leaving to assure no contrast reaction occurs.
