Bilateral Runoff or Unilateral

Procedure time
30-45 min.

Purpose
To check arterial blood flow to feet or foot.

Procedure

  • Patient sent to IPU for IV, labs and prep, then patient is taken to Special Procedures.
  • Advise patient of possibility of angioplasty or stent or TPA if able to fix at that time. Physician will talk to patient about this when they arrive.
  • Femoral artery (groin area) will be accessed and catheter inserted into aorta.
  • Contrast will be injected as X-ray images are taken. If nothing can be done to help patient, catheter will be removed and pressure held to form clot over access site.
  • Patient will then be sent to IPU or floor for observation and some monitoring for 4-6 hours.
  • Patient must have someone drive them home.
