Cerebral Arteriogram

Procedure time
45 min.-1 hour

Purpose
To diagnose any abnormality in vertebral or carotid arteries, aneurysm, tumor, vasculitis, hemorrhage or malformation

Procedure

  • Patient is sent to IPU to be prepped, have labs drawn, IVs, and is then taken to Special Procedures.
  • Radiologist will discuss procedure with patient and answer questions.
  • Physician will access femoral artery (stick groin), a catheter will be placed in vertebra/carotid arteries.
  • A series of pictures will be taken during contrast injections.
  • After the sheath is removed pressure will be applied to stick site to clot artery stick.
  • Band-Aid or dressing will be applied.
  • Patient will go to IPU for bed rest and observation for 4-6 hours.
  • Patient must have someone drive them home.
