Under the general direction of the referring physician, diagnoses, plans and provides treatment for communication and swallowing disorders. Determines need for referral to specialists in medicine, dentistry, education, psychology, sociology and related areas. Acts as consultant of educational, medical and other professional personnel in the basics of speech/language pathology. Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, linguistics and phonetics at a level normally acquired through completion of a Masters of Arts or Science in Speech/Language Pathology. Certification by the
American Speech, Language and Hearing Association upon completion of Clinical Fellowship Year and an Ohio state license by the end of the first year of employment at the hospital. Communication skills necessary in order to effectively communicate with patients, families and staff and physicians. Familiarity with computer operations is required and organizational skills needed to design and plan for various therapeutic activities. Maintains annual CPR Certification.
