The Mercy Diabetes Program

Recognized by the American Diabetes Association as a provider of quality diabetes education, the Mercy Diabetes Program helps people with diabetes understand the disease and make the necessary lifestyle changes to get good control of their diabetes.

Our comprehensive approach involves a team of registered nurses and dietitians who are board certified as diabetes educators (CDE's) specialists, in the care of people with diabetes. The diabetes program at Mercy is designed to help adults with Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes who are newly diagnosed, or those who have had diabetes for some time and need an update on how to manage their disease. Specialized classes are available for women diagnosed with gestational diabetes (a form of diabetes that occurs during pregnancy).

Group classes and individual appointments are available at a variety of times to accommodate most schedules. Class topics include:

  • Meal Planning
  • Monitoring
  • Medications
  • Exercise
  • Preventing Complications
  • Goal Setting and Behavior Change
Both day and evening classes are available. Participants may be newly diagnosed with diabetes or have a change in their diabetes care, such as medication changes.

A written referral from your physician is required. Depending on your insurance coverage, services may need to be pre-authorized by your insurer and be accompanied by a referral from your primary care physician. Download our Diabetes Risk Assessment to find out if you are at risk.

DPRP - Diabetes Physician Recognition Program

DPRP is a recognition program administered by the NCQA and is awarded to physicians who can demonstrate that they provide high quality care to patients with diabetes. As of March of 2007, there are 196 physicians in Ohio who have earned this recognition. Across Southwest Ohio, there are 51 DPRP physicians who practice at Mercy.

The DPRP Assist Program is voluntary and developed to help physicians benchmark their practices and identify if they meet the performance measures for DPRP recognition. Click here to view a list of the 51 DPRP physicians who practice at Mercy.
