When an injury or illness leads you to rehabilitation, you don't want to put your life on hold. We work with you so that you get the therapy you need while maintaining as much of your daily routine as possible. We work with you, your physician and your family to make sure you reach your rehabilitation goals. Our holistic framework cares for your mind, body and spirit, enabling you to take on the challenge of recovery.

Expertise That You Need
Physical Therapy
Through individualized exercise programs, manual therapy, aquatic therapy and other approaches, Mercy's therapists help restore functioning and maximizing recovery following illness, disease or injury. Typical conditions treated through physical therapy include:
- Injuries of the neck, shoulder, back, hip, knee, ankle or foot
- Total joint replacement
- Strokes or other neurological conditions

Hand Therapy
Designed to help increase the use of the hand, arm, shoulder, and/or elbow after an injury or trauma, this specialized treatment assists those who have:
Carpel tunnel syndrome
Arthritis
Tennis elbow
Burns
Amputation
Tendon and nerve injuries
Impingement syndrome
Hand therapists teach patients how to adapt to everyday challenges by using a variety of therapeutic activities and techniques such as exercise, computer-based therapy and splinting.
Occupational Therapy
By focusing on helping you become as independent as possible, the occupational therapist can help your motor, sensory and cognitive skills. Occupational therapy can teach you how to meet the challenges of daily living, conserve your energy for the tasks that are most important to you or modify your environment to meet your need for independence. Some of those who benefit from occupational therapy have illnesses or injuries such as:

Speech-Language Pathology
Speech pathologists can assist you with speech, language and oral function difficulties and cognitive problems. Speech development, aphasia and fluency therapy, voice diagnostics and articulation therapy, and other approaches may help those who have speech or language disorders due to:

Aquatic Therapy
At our three Centers for Health and Wellness, aquatic therapy is an additional physical therapy service that promotes functional development, balance, and coordination. Those with orthopedic, spine or balance conditions particularly benefit from warm water therapy, available with a physician's order.
Workplace Rehabilitation
You can return to your job after injury with the help of our workplace rehabilitation program. Physical rehabilitation and mental preparation help works meet the challenge of safely re-entering the workforce. Our trained staff members develop individual programs that improve body mechanics, increase strength and flexibility and improve your functional capacity to return to your job safely and with confidence.
Sports Medicine
Our physical therapists and athletic trainers help you recover from sports and recreational injuries. We understand that returning you quickly and safely to your lifestyle is what's important to you. We offer expertise in expanding movement, relieving pain and improving function. Our athletic trainers also serve serveral local high schools. Working under the direction of team physicians, we evaluate injuries, provide first aid and develop exercise programs to help reduce injuries and the risk of re-injury.
Driver Education and Training
The Driver Evaluation and Training Program provides an objective, comprehensive assessment of a person's ability to drive safely. Occupational therapists who are state-certified driving instructors and are handicapped-endorsed, perform a number of tests to assess functional range of motion, strength, coordination, vision, reaction time, problem-solving ability, safety, decision-making and memory. The therapists also conduct testing with a simulator, an off-road course and an on-the-road course. To participate, you must have a current Ohio driver's license and a doctor's prescription.
Lymphedema
Designed to maintain swelling reduction, ease day-to-day discomfort and improve your quality of life, therapy may include manual lymphedema treatment, medical compression, exercise and the use of a pneumatic pump.

Staying Healthy in the Future
When your rehabilitation therapy is completed, we encourage you to maintain and improve your functional strengths and your health and wellness. Mercy offers three area HealthPlex locations--our fitness centers. You can also take advantage of classes and programs at our Health and Wellness Centers and learn more about the connection between mind, body and spirit.
Connecting With Us
To get started, a written referral from your physician is required. Depending on your insurance coverage, services may need to be pre-authorized by your insurer and be accompanied by a referral from your primary care physician.
We begin with a comprehensive evaluation of your condition and work with you and your physician to develop a rehabilitation program that meets your special needs and goals. We will continue to supervise and monitor your progress, reporting back to your physician on a regular basis.
