Childbirth Series

This comprehensive, four-class series is designed to educate and assist expectant mothers and their partners before, during and after the baby's birth. Many aspects of pregnancy and childbirth are covered: basic anatomy and physiology of labor and birth, exercise, coping skills, pain management options, birth (vaginal and Cesarean), and basic postpartum care. Bring one or two pillows, a blanket or mat, and wear comfortable clothing. This class includes a tour of our birthing center. Please register by your sixth month of pregnancy.
Cost is $70 per couple.

Weekend Childbirth Class

This all-day, one-time class is designed as an option for those not able to attend a multi-week session. It covers all the essentials of the basic childbirth preparation series in a special, condensed format. A tour of our birthing center is included. Bring one or two pillows, a blanket or mat, and wear comfortable clothing. Please register by your sixth month of pregnancy.
Cost is $70 per couple.

Childbirth Refresher/VBAC Class

This class is designed for those who have given birth before and want to review information about labor, pain management choices, birth options and hospital policies and procedures. Also, this class is for those who have had a previous Cesarean section delivery and want information on vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC). Discussion, a video and a tour of our birthing center are used to answer questions and offer guidelines to help you prepare for your delivery. This class should be taken in the seventh or eighth month of your pregnancy.
Cost is $40 per couple.

Christian Childbirth

This five-week series is designed for expectant families who share a set of Christian values. The educator includes spiritual concepts in covering labor and the birth process, comfort measures, coaching techniques, medical procedures, births plans and postpartum recovery.
Cost is $70 per couple.

Personalized Childbirth Class

If you prefer an individual class to review the principles of prepared childbirth, let us arrange a customized program to fit your needs. For more information, please call the hospital.
Cost is $40 per hour.

Childbirth Series for Teens and Single Parents - A special class offered at Mercy Franciscan Hospital Mt. Airy.

This class is for teens and their support person. Topics covered include the labor and birth process, relaxation methods, adjusting to parenthood and more.
Cost is $25 per person.
