About Our Program

Degenerative Joint Disease is one of the leading causes of disability among Americans today.  Wear and tear as well as trauma often results in arthritis that causes the hip, knee, and shoulder joints to become stiff and painful leading to a decrease in motion.  This often results in an ultimate decrease in activity and an alteration of a healthy lifestyle.

Our goal at The Orthopaedic Center of Excellence at Mercy Hospital Fairfield is to return you to a normal active lifestyle as soon and safely as possible.  We place patient satisfaction as our utmost priority, and have created a multidisciplinary, family-centered program that incorporates comprehensive orthopaedic care.  A new 4 Tower floor has been built with 29 spacious private rooms and three semi-private, ADA-compliant rooms that include specialty beds and equipment.

Our surgeons perform total joint replacements with expertise and precision, utilizing the latest in technological breakthroughs such as Computer Assisted Surgery equipment and minimally invasive surgery.  A dedicated program director will coordinate and facilitate your care from pre-admission through discharge, and you will be strongly encouraged to attend a total joint replacement education class prior to your surgery.  We use a dedicated team of specially trained nurses, physical and occupational therapists, discharge planners, and a clinical pharmacist who will provide care during your stay with us.

Your rehabilitation will begin with our physical therapists, who utilize cutting edge techniques methods such as group therapy and use of the Nintendo Wii. Our discharge planners are specially trained nurses and social workers who will coordinate your care after discharge from the hospital to successfully continue your recovery and rehabilitation at home or at a rehabilitation facility.
