Total Knee Replacement

 

Patients who suffer with knee problems such as pain, stiffness, and swelling due to wear and tear such as osteoarthritis, chronic inflammatory illnesses such as rheumatoid arthritis, or traumatic injuries may benefit from a total knee replacement.  Knee replacement surgery almost always reduces joint pain and stiffness, as well as increasing strength, mobility, and quality of life.  In a total knee replacement, our orthopaedic surgeons (doctors who treat bone and joint problems) skillfully replace the worn, damaged bone ends of the knee joint that painfully rub together with a metal and plastic artificial implant called a prosthesis.  The new prosthesis provides a smooth surface for easier joint movement.
