(Cincinnati) – September 23, 2009 - The Hamilton County Commissioners have provided the final government approval needed in the re-zoning process for a new Mercy hospital in Green Township. Commissioners Greg Hartmann, David Pepper and Todd Portune unanimously approved the re-zoning request from Mercy Health Partners today. The vote clears the way for Mercy to develop a new, state-of-the-art hospital on the 60-acre site located on North Bend Road, just off I-74.
In voicing their approval for the project, the commissioners noted that it is a “home run for the west side and Hamilton County.” They also complimented Mercy for adjusting the site plans throughout the process to better meet the needs of the community. This approval follows unanimous votes for the re-zoning from the Green Township Trustees, Hamilton County Regional Planning Commission and the Hamilton County Rural Zoning Commission.
“We thank all of the government officials and leaders involved in this process,” said James May, president/CEO of Mercy Health Partners. “We look forward to developing the new hospital and providing comprehensive, high-quality healthcare services for residents throughout the west side, in western Hamilton County, and beyond. In the meantime, we will continue to provide exceptional care and grow the services offered at Mercy Hospital Mt. Airy and Mercy Hospital Western Hills.”
Mercy plans to use the centrally-located site in Green Township as the hub for efforts to expand access to acute care, primary care and a variety of outpatient services. Plans for the project include:
- A state-of-the-art, full-service hospital that will offer leading physicians, new technology and the latest advancements in patient care and comfort;
- Comprehensive cancer and heart programs, as well as 24/7 emergency care;
- A hospital campus on a 60-acre parcel that incorporates existing green space and adds a walking/biking trail that would be connected to trails being planned by Green Township;
- Updates to North Bend Road that will address the expected increase in traffic.
