Mercy Outpatient Rehabilitation and Therapy - Workplace Rehabilitation
You can return to your job after injury with the help of our workplace rehabilitation program. Physical rehabilitation and mental preparation help workers meet the challenge of safely re-entering the workforce.
The purpose of the Workplace Rehabilitation Center is to maximize an individual's ability to return to work. An interdisciplinary team, consisting of physical therapists, psychological assistant, and psychologist design goal-oriented tasks to address the work related needs of individuals which include physical and possibly psycho-social and vocational issues. Functional Capacity Evaulations, conditioning activities, vocational assessment and real or simulated work activities are structured to address the issues of productivity, safety, physical tolerances, and work behaviors.
Evaluation and Treatment Services
Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) is an objective process for determining an individual's ability to work based on current medical, physical, psychological, vocational and motivational factors. FCE's range from three to five hours and can be performed independently or as the initial days of a Work Rehabilitation program.
- Work Conditioning -- Participants involved in one to three hour sessions of conditioning exercises, functional activities, and educational lectures to develop an enhanced worker readiness. While in the Work Rehabilitation Center, the participants are set up on exercise machines, stretching exercise program, home exercise program, dumb-bells and free weights as a way of promoting overall physical general conditioning.
- Job Site Analysis -- This service involves the therapist visiting the job site (30 - 60 minutes) to observe the type of work activities the client is expected to do upon his/her return. This enhances the understanding of what activities need to be simulated in the Work Rehab department. It also enables the therapist to offer recommendations for safer performance of work tasks, ergonomic tips, etc. to prevent re-injury upon return to work.
- Psychological Counseling/Testing -- This service is directed towards minimizing the reduction of the quality of life resulting from the effect of pain, injury, or job loss upon the psycho-social and physical well being of the individual. Upon the referral source and client's request, individual counseling services can be provided while participating in one of the above services based upon the individual needs of the client.
