Heart of the Matter. A case statement for Mercy Sacred Heart Village.

"The graying of America" is a phrase that bombards us daily, whether through a news story, a census statistic, or a close look at our own environments. A simple enough phrase, it nevertheless evokes a number of complex issues with which aging members of our society (and their family members and friends) must grapple, the most pressing issue being that of assisted care. For many individuals, the topic of aging and being care for during the last years of life is the occasion for overwhelming fear.

 

For over a hundred years, the Sisters of Mercy have addressed this concern through Sacred Heart Village, a facility that offers various residential situations, from the more independent apartment living to an environment with round-the-clcok nursing care.

 

Individuals arrive at Sacred Heart Village with diverse needs and backgrounds, but for each resident, the goal of staff members remains steadfast: providing the best care possible using a holistic approach that addresses residents' physical, emotional, cognitive, and spiritual needs.
