3-Day Continuous Glucose Monitoring System (CGMS)
This new sensor helps patients and their primary care physicians see the whole picture. Offered at the Mercy Diabetes Center in the Cinncinnati area, primary care physicians can refer their patients to the center for the CGMS evaluation. The sensor is easy to wear and easy to use.
So how does it work?
- you'll wear the sensor for 72 hours
- the sensor will take 864 glucose readings
- the sensor can reveal hidden patterns like frequent hypoglycemia
- helps patients better understand the cause and relationship between their blood glucose levels and their daily activities
- can help in evaluating therapeutic changes to your medication regimen
- can detect hyperclycemic episodes
A tiny sensor inserts easily under your skin in a virtually painless process. Once it's inserted, you enter your blood glucose levels four times a day to coincide withthe fingersticks suggested by your healthcare provider (before each meal and at bedtime), as well as enter daily events like meals, insulin and exercise. Glucose measurements are automatically collected by the sensor and stored in a discreet monitor you wear like a pager. After three days your testing is complete. Your physician generates a personalized report that helps you fine-tune your therapy.
The CGMS evaluation is reimbursed by Medicare and has broad private insurance coverage.
How to refer a patient?
Call 513-755-5240 or by fax to 513-755-5250. Patient evaluation report is sent back to the primary care physician with analysis. Patient returns to primary care physician for treatment unless otherwise requested.
