Mercy Receives Unanimous Approval from Hamilton County Regional Planning Commission
7/7/2009 --
(CINCINNATI) – Mercy Health Partners has taken another important step in the development of a 60-acre site in Green Township. On Thursday afternoon, the Hamilton County Regional Planning Commission voted unanimously to approve an amendment to the county land use plan to allow for the development of a new hospital.
"The support from the Regional Planning Commission is tremendous," said James May, president/CEO of Mercy Health Partners of the 5-0 vote in favor of the project. "This is another indication that we are moving in the right direction toward developing the proposed site and increasing access to high-quality healthcare services for the residents of Cincinnati, western Hamilton County and beyond."
The site, which is located on North Bend Road near I-74, would serve as the location for a new hospital and support enhanced access to acute care, primary care and a variety of outpatient services, including chronic care management. The project still requires re-zoning approval from Green Township and the county.
Prior to taking the vote as part of their regularly scheduled public meeting, Commission members considered the report submitted by the Hamilton County Regional Planning staff, the recommendation of support from Green Township, heard a brief presentation from Mercy, and listened to comments and questions from neighbors of the proposed site. Before voting, Commission members, Donald Misrach and Dave Okum, noted that they felt the proposed site is the best possible location for a hospital along I-74 because of the easy access from the interstate.
Below are other highlights of the plans for the development.
- The site will serve as the hub for plans to continue to expand access to inpatient and outpatient services on the west side, in western Hamilton County and beyond.
- The new hospital will be state-of-the-art and incorporate the latest advancements in patient care and comfort, offer leading physicians in a wide variety of specialties, and feature cutting-edge technology.
- Proposed services for the new hospital include full-service emergency care, cancer care, and a comprehensive heart program.
