Regional Sisters of Mercy Celebrate Diamond and Golden Jubiliees

Mercy congratulates and honors Sr. Joan Nemann, RSM, who celebrated her 60th anniversary Diamond Jubilee as a Sister of Mercy at a special liturgy held on Saturday, August 15.
Sr. Joan currently serves as the coordinator for our RISEN program. She previously served as Director of Mission Integration at both Clermont and Anderson Hospitals. She has served as both an educator and principal at Mother of Mercy High School. She was director of vocations for the Sisters of Mercy, liaison for Religious with the Archdiocese of Cincinnati, and a member of the congregational leadership for the Sisters of Mercy in the Cincinnati Regional Community.
We are so very blessed to have Sr. Joan as part of our Mercy family. We are thankful to God for her example of dedicated service to our Mission of Mercy.
Mercy Health Partners also congratulates Sister Mary Lou Averbeck as she and other Sisters of Mercy celebrated their Golden Jubilee on Saturday, August 15th. Sister Mary Lou joined the Sisters of Mercy 50 years ago and is commemorating this milestone.
Through the years some of her ministries have included:
- Junior High teacher at St. Teresa of Avila School and Our Lady of Lourdes School, in Cincinnati, OH, 1964-1969
- Principal and teacher at St. Boniface School, Piqua, OH 1969-1972
- Junior High teacher at Nativity School in Cincinnati, OH 1972-1977
- Vocation ministry and formation ministry for the Archdiocese of Cincinnati and the Sisters of Mercy, Province of Cincinnati, 1977-1983
- Chaplaincy ministry at Our Lady of Mercy Hospital, Mariemont, in 1983, then continued at Mercy Hospital Anderson, Cincinnati OH.
- Directed chaplaincy services for Mercy Health Partners, Southwest Ohio region, and shared responsibility for establishing the Palliative Care Services of Mercy Health Partners.
- Currently serves as the Director of Mission Integration at Mercy Hospital Anderson, Cincinnati, OH. In this role was part of the development and opening of Mercy Care Clinic, a free clinic for those in need of healthcare services but who are unable to pay. This clinic is sponsored by Mercy Hospital Anderson and the Muslim Clinic of Ohio.
