Mercy Hospital Anderson Celebrates 25 Years of Caring

Since Mercy Hospital Anderson first opened its doors and began serving patients in 1984 a lot has changed. The hospital has grown with the community and added new services and specialties, but the single-minded focus of providing exceptional care and compassion has remained constant. It has always been part of the Mercy Mission.
"We are very excited to celebrate our 25-year anniversary with our staff, physicians and the community," said Patricia Schroer, President and CEO of Mercy Hospital Anderson. "We are proud to serve and support the Anderson community and we’re looking forward to providing comprehensive, compassionate care for many years to come."
Since its inception 25 years ago, Mercy Hospital Anderson has been rated as one of the 100 Top Hospitals in the Nation by Thomson Reuters an amazing seven times. It also established in conjunction with Wellington Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine the opening of the new Orthopaedic Center of Excellence. As a result, Mercy Anderson is now rated the number one hospital in Ohio for orthopedic care. Mercy Anderson also offers a nationally-rated Family Birth Center, a comprehensive heart program, including open heart surgery program and interventional cath lab, a recently expanded Emergency Department and Women’s Center, an Oncology Department with outstanding achievement rated by the American College of Surgeons, and the Health and Wellness Center located across the street that includes the HealthPlex, Sleep Center, and Outpatient Therapy and Rehabilitation.
Mercy Hospital Anderson was officially dedicated on August 12, 1984 and received patients on August 15, 1984. Sister Mary Lou Averbeck, Director of Mission Integration at Mercy Hospital Anderson, helped to open the "new" Mercy Hospital in 1984. "Looking back on 25 years I realize that Mercy Hospital Anderson is so much more than a building of bricks and mortar; it’s all about people and establishing a caring connection. Throughout the years the spirit has remained true to the mission and to uncompromising care. We have always believed that through our service we make a difference."
To commemorate the official opening week the hospital staff, physicians and volunteers enjoyed activities that celebrated their history of caring. In September the staff will receive giveaways based on years of service at the hospital. A reception will be held in October at the hospital for members of the community. To celebrate one way of giving back to the community, a 25 Year Anniversary Health and Wellness Fair will be held at Mercy HealthPlex on November 14 from 10am – 2pm. Included in the Fair are free health screenings, flu shots, health education and wellness activities.
