The Cleans for the Cure Caravan is Coming to Mercy Western Hills and Mercy Anderson

10/1/2009     --

The Cleans for a Cure Caravan will be at Mercy Hospital Western Hills on Wednesday, October 7 and at Mercy Hospital Anderson on Wednesday, October 21.  The hours for both events are 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

The Cleans for the Cure Caravan is sponsored by Mercy in conjunction with Stanley Steemer and WARM 98.  At the event you can get the interior of your car, mini-van, or SUV steam cleaned by Stanley Steemer while you learn more about breast cancer and digital mammography, and help raise money to find a cure for breast cancer.  The cost for the steam cleaning is $30 with all proceeds going to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation.

The caravan has been visiting all of the Mercy locations in Greater Cincinnati that provide digital mammography, which includes all five Mercy hospitals and the Mercy imaging centers in Milford and Liberty Township.  It’s part of Mercy’s commitment to increase awareness about breast cancer and provide the latest, most effective technology in the battle against breast cancer.

All women age 40 and older should have an annual mammogram. It is also becoming very clear that when you get a mammogram, digital mammography offers clear advantages over film mammography.  The benefits include:
  • Digital mammography is proven to be 25% more sensitive than film in detecting calcifications or tumors in the breast, particularly in women under the age of 50 or those who have dense breasts.
  • It allows the radiologist to magnify specific areas of the image and adjust the contrast so abnormalities are easier to see.  This can help lead to earlier diagnosis and better outcomes.
  • Added convenience; digital mammograms are faster and require less repeat images.
Providing Added Comfort

Mercy is also providing MammoPads for all patients as a standard of care.  These soft, warm foam cushions are placed between the patient and the surface of the mammography device, resulting in a more comfortable mammogram.  Mercy is the only local healthcare provider that offers the MammoPads at no additional charge.

We recognize the importance of getting an annual mammogram, so we want to help make it as convenient and comfortable as possible,” says Jason Wessel, regional director of radiology for Mercy Health Partners.  “We believe that providing the MammoPads as a standard of care is the right thing to do and hopefully it will help encourage more women to get their annual check up.”
