Additional Services

Mercy St. Theresa provides specialized services designed to meet the needs of older adults with Alzheimer's disease and related dementia.

DaySTAE Program

Mercy St. Theresa offers an in-house DaySTAE (Success Through Activities & Environment) program for residents with Alzheimer's disease and related dementia. The DaySTAE concept was researched and implemented at West Park in 2003 and uses a tailored, therapeutic approach to activities to communicate purpose and meaning to the participant.

The DaySTAE program creates an opportunity for a successful experience which enhances dignity and builds self-esteem. The DaySTAE program strives to provide a safe and compassionate environment with the greatest amount of freedom while encouraging participants to function at their optimal level.

TimeSlips Program

TimeSlips is a national storytelling program for persons with Alzheimer's disease and related dementia created by Anne Basting, PhD at the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee. TimeSlips offers participants a unique and creative way to express themselves without the frustration or embarrassment which may accompany memory loss.

Participants experience a social role, that of storyteller, which may reaffirm their humanity and reconnect them with staff, family and friends. TimeSlips provides an opportunity for meaningful interactions through the use of imagination.

Memories in the Making

Memories in the Making is an art program for persons in early to middle stage Alzheimer's disease and related dementia. Under the guidance of an art facilitator, participants are offered a means of self-expression through the process of painting and drawing. Participants with diminished verbal skills and organizational skills can communicate by recreating a memory on paper or canvas.

The Memory in the Making program is sponsored through the Alzheimer's Association.

Drumming Circles

Drumming circles create an interactive group activity which brings accessible rhythm expression for those who participate to make connections beyond the music produced. The purpose of a drumming circle is to give the participant an "in the moment" experience of their own spirit and power.

Drumming circles allow the participant to share and explore their human potential through rhythm. Participants are able to reconnect with their most basic self at any level of functional ability.

How to Get Involved

The DaySTAE program is for Mercy St. Theresa residents that have a diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease or related dementia and would benefit from smaller group activities. A nursing assessment is completed to determine appropriateness for the program. If you are interested in DaySTAE and would like additional information or would like to schedule a tour of our communities, please call us at 513/271-7010.

Respite Care

Respite care is provided in furnished, private rooms for short stays when family members or other caregivers are away. Respite care is also a way to get to know our service and compassion first-hand. Services include assistance with medication, bathing and dressing, if needed; three meals a day; weekly laundry and housekeeping service and all utilities including telephone and cable TV.

Transitional Care

We offer skilled nursing and rehabilitation services for those recovering from an illness, injury or hospital stay. Our nursing and therapy staff members are dedicated to helping residents regain their strength and independence by providing 24-hour skilled nursing care; three healthy, nutritious meals a day, housekeeping and laundry services; on-site physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy. Outpatient therapy services are also available.

Volunteer Opportunities

There are angels at Mercy St. Theresa--they are the volunteers who give their time and their talent to support the residents at St. Theresa. From the gift shop to the activity areas, the smiles and dedication of Mercy's volunteers cheer the soul of residents, staff and visitors.

The St. Theresa Guild also requires angels to help raise money for the residents of St. Theresa. If you are interested in becoming a Guild member and/or a St. Theresa volunteer, please call Jeannie at 513/271-7010.
