What the Levels Mean
Level III
Hospitals with Level III maternity units provide care and accept transfers for all types of pregnancies and births, including those considered to be the most high-risk. Certain specialized therapies and surgical procedures are available only at these institutions.
Level II
The Birthing Center at Springfield Regional Medical Center is a Level II facility.
Hospitals with Level II maternity units provide care and accept transfers for uncomplicated, complicated and selected high-risk pregnancies and births.
Level I
Hospitals with Level I maternity services provide care for routine, uncomplicated pregnancies and births.
