St. Mary's Neurodiagnostic Center

In 1985, St. Mary's Medical Center opened the first Neurodiagnostic Center in East Tennessee. The equipment and techniques used in the Center are on the cutting edge of neuroscience technology.

St. Mary's Neurodiagnostic Center provides testing that is part of the specialty of Clinical Neurophysiology. Clinical neurophysiological tests detect diseases of the neuromuscular system (the combination of the nervous system and muscles, working together to permit movement) and are used to detect diseases that affect the brain, spinal cord and nerves and muscles in the arms and legs.

These tests are performed in the Clinical Laboratory and Intensive Care Unit. Neurophysiological tests are also used in the Surgery Department to assist physicians perform operations safely.
