Anyone can have a stroke, regardless of age, sex or race. However, your chance increases if you have certain risk factors. No matter your score, you will benefit. 80 percent of all strokes are preventable, but the first step is to understand your risk factors.

Almost everyone has stroke risk and unfortunately, a few of those risk factors are beyond your control, such as your age or family history. If you have even one of these risk factors, it is critical to know your risk profile and learn how to defend yourself against stroke.

By taking the free St. Mary’s STROKEaware risk assessment, you will receive a personalized report and strictly confidential information that will help you:

  • Assess your current peripheral vascular health status.
  • Identify medical or lifestyle conditions that may lead to the development of peripheral vascular disease.
  • Take action to reduce your level of risk.
  • Receive, at your request, free continuing education via e-mail about your specific peripheral vascular health and risk factors.

How do I start?
Click here to take the online risk evaluation. At the end of the evaluation, you will be asked if you want us to follow up with you. If you agree (and only if you agree), you will receive follow-up services, all FREE.

Is participation confidential?
Yes. All information is between you and St. Mary's.

What if the evaluation shows I’m at risk for stroke?
A St. Mary's representative will contact you and set up a 15 to 30 minute screening and consultation with a nurse.

What happens at the screening?
You are given a painless blood test to check your cholesterol levels and your blood pressure is measured. The clinician will ask you about your medical history.

Is there follow-up after the screening?
Yes, you will receive a confidential report. If the clinician thinks you should see a physician, you will be referred to your family physician, all within the context of your medical plan.

If I need care, is it covered by my health insurance?
All care is provided within your current medical plan.
