HOPE
that you will win the fight.

Of all the things cancer can take away, the most devasting can be the will to keep fighting. We understand struggle, and the need for hope.

Mercy Cancer Centers keep patients looking forward, focusing on the many joys still to come, while offering a variety of therapeutic options to ease the day-to-day challenges of fighting cancer.

Physical, Occupational and Speech Therapies
Sometimes cancer or its treatment diminishes patients’ movement, mobility or speech. Physical therapy helps these patients to regain their fullest functional capacity within the constraints of their diseases. Occupational therapy helps patients to maintain optimal function as it relates to performance of daily living activities. Speech therapy helps patients to speak more effectively if they have experienced a loss or adverse change in verbal ability because of disease.

Lymphedema Treatment
Lymphedema is a swelling in a part of the body (arm, leg or trunk) caused by an accumulation of fluid in the tissues. Lymphedema can occur following surgical intervention (i.e. node dissection, lumpectomy, mastectomy) or radiation therapy. This condition sometimes occurs following breast cancer treatment. Presently, there is no cure for lymphedema, but it can be controlled through manual lymph drainage (a specialized massage), exercise, or compression bandaging or garment use.

Enterostomal Therapy
Enterostomal therapy addresses the needs of patients who have undergone a colostomy, ileostomy or an ileo-conduit. The goal—which is reached primarily through education—is for patients to learn to live with their changed physical condition and to resume, as much as possible, their normal daily activities.
