Mercy Health Partners' Services for Healthy Bones
To keep your bones healthy - or to make them healthier - it's important to do three things:
- Eat right. Your diet should be low in fats and animal products, contain whole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables, calcium-rich foods - such as dairy products, dark-green leafy vegtables, sardines, salmon and almonds.
- Take nutritional supplements, such as calcium, magnesium, and vitamin D.
- Do weight-bearing exercises.
At Mercy Health Partners, we offer nutrition counseling and exercise programs to help you maintain or achieve maximum bone mass. If needed, we can also measure the strength of your bones, calculate the risk of fracture, and determine if osteoporosis is present through a painless, noninvasive test called a dexa scan.
