Community Health Education
Community Health Educators have been certified or specially trained to provide the following:
COMMUNITY PROGRAMS
Safe Sitter babysitter training programs for boys and girls This is a medically accurate instruction series that teaches life-saving techniques, safety precautions to prevent accidents, how and when to summon help, and tips on basic childcare. These programs are held during the summer months for boys and girls age 11-13.
Women in Touch programs These programs highlight a speaker about a wellness topic of special interest to women. The program includes dinner at a local banquet facility, door prizes and displays. Programs are held in the spring and fall each year.
Health Events for Men and Women These are half-day or evening seminars focused on a current health issue and usually include a keynote speaker and panel discussion.
Yoga Classes at St. Joseph Health Center Yoga is a mind-body-spirit practice that includes postures, breathing techniques, meditation and relaxation. Skills learned in yoga class can be used to manage stress and to live a healthier life.
Advance Care Planning Programs Most people don’t have conversations with loved ones about their preferences for end of life care. Advance care planning is a process of shared decision-making among individuals, loved ones and health professionals. HMHP provides programs to help people begin the first steps toward advance care planning.
One Step at a Time Walk Fitness Program
In partnership with Beatitude House and Second Sole, a walk fitness program was implemented for clients and staff to keep logs of the number of steps taken on a daily basis. To encourage participation and as incentive for healthy lifestyles, presentations by HMHP professionals on a variety of health and wellness topics were also provided.
SPEAKER'S BUREAU
Humility of Mary Health Partners can draw on experienced health care providers to educate the public about a variety of health issues. Call for a list of speakers for your next community program or meeting.
HEALTH SCREENINGS
Preventative screenings that are available to community groups, dependent on availability, include blood pressure, blood sugar, bone density, cholesterol and body fat.
