Family Medicine

Thank you for your interest in the Family Medicine Residency Program at St. Elizabeth Health Center.

Since 1977, more than 100 family physicians have graduated from the St. Elizabeth Family Medicine program, with approximately half of them staying in the greater Youngstown area. Most have gone into private or group practices, while others have progressed into teaching positions in residencies and university programs. In addition to our comprehensive curriculum, we also offer exceptional learning opportunities through our Family Health Center, which is a modern, 16,000 square foot facility that offers numerous procedures on-site, including:

  • colposcopy

  • casting and splinting

  • minor dermatological procedures

  • EKG, spirometry, tympanometry, audiometry, etc.

  • We are fortunate to have a very loyal "following" in the Family Health Center, with an annual patient volume of approximately 12,000 visits - which provides our residents with a wide variety of patient care opportunities, ranging from pre-natal through geriatrics.

All aspects of family medicine are taught, including behavioral science and practice management. To help ensure continuity of care, all residents and faculty have their own panel of patients and supervision is provided according to the resident’s competence. Highly qualified and knowledgeable faculty provide supervision according to the resident’s experience and competence.

As part of the NEOUCOM consortium, medical students (M-1 through M-4) are also on-site and residents can begin to hone their own precepting/teaching skills here. An academic appointment from NEOUCOM may be obtained in the third year of resident training.
