St. Joseph Family Practice Residency
The Family Practice Residency Program has been in existence at St. Joseph's since 1984 and is approved by the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians and the American Osteopathic Association for ten (10) residency positions.
The residency is a two-year program following the completion of an osteopathic internship. The director is Philip Starr, D.O. The role of our program is to provide the resident organized, progressive, primary responsibility for the care of patients in a family environment. This is accomplished through didactic and clinical experiences under the supervision of attending family practitioners and in cooperation with allied specialists. Emphasis is placed on the longitudinal approach and the educational aspects in the care of ambulatory patients, as well as geriatric medicine.
The St. Joseph Community Care Center is the core site for the longitudinal clinic. Each resident establishes a panel of patients and establishes "office hours" at the center constituting three half days per week seeing their patients.
The resident is expected to contribute to the medical education experience by participating in formal lectures and precept any interns/medical students rotating through the Community Care Center.
We welcome your call or visit, and at that time, will be able to more fully explain our program, benefit package and orient you to the great facility we have. Please feel free to contact the Medical Education Department, Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at (330) 841-4774.
