The Internal Medicine
Residency
program supports twenty-four residents, eight at each training level
and a chief medical resident. Graduates of our program receive training
in educational pathways to become primary care practitioners,
hospitalists or fellows in medical subspecialties.
- The curriculum
provides optimal experiences in both ambulatory and inpatient medicine
to assure education in a broad spectrum of internal medicine settings.
- Residents have ample
opportunities for elective experiences, research, and exposure to
complementary specialties such as gynecology and rehabilitation
medicine.
- Core curriculum
conferences, morning report conference, and bedside teaching rounds are
an integral part of the learning milieu.
- Six full-time and one
part-time core faculty members board-certified by the American Board of
Internal Medicine and members of the Northeastern Ohio Universities
College of Medicine (NEOUCOM) faculty. Over 75 volunteer faculty.
- Our program has a
strong commitment to helping residents maintain a balance between their
professional and personal lives.
- Residents help in the
teaching and clinical supervision of medical students.
- The Internal Medicine
Program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical
Education (ACGME).
- Our three year rolling
first time rate for the American Board of Internal Medicine certifying
exam is 95%. For those opting for primary care medicine, the Youngstown
community has many practice opportunities.

Internal Medicine Program Requirements
Application Process:
We welcome your interest
for training in our program. We are unable to provide observership or
externship positions. We will begin accepting applications through
Electronic Resident Application Services (ERAS) only, beginning
September 1 and ending December 1 for the Upcoming Match season. We
accept applications from all interested applicants. At this time, we
sponsor J-1 visas for international medical graduates only. It is a
requirement for all medical students to have successfully passed both
the USMLE steps I and II before beginning residency. You will not need
to have ECFMG certification when applying, but will need it to be
qualified for the match.
Additionally, for international medical school graduates, we do not
require any US experience.
Minimal requirements are USMLE 1 and 2 scores of 80/80 on first take
and graduation from medical school within three years of application.
Interviews are by invitation only and applicants are notified of
available interview dates through ERAS.
Residents are selected on a fair and equal basis without regard to
race, color, religion, sex, or national origin.
