St. Joseph Internship Program

The intern program at St. Joseph Health Center is AOA approved for 16 intern positions. Paul R. Sebest, Jr., D.O. is Director of Medical Education and Intern Program Director.

The prospective intern may choose from three tracks:

Traditional Rotating Internship
This internship offers in-depth exposure in medicine, surgery, obstetrics/gynecology, pediatrics, family medicine, block nights, emergency medicine and elective rotations.

Special Emphasis in Family Medicine Internship
The curriculum offers rotations in internal medicine, surgery, ob/gyn, pediatrics, emergency medicine, and one month of elective. A longitudinal rotation, under supervision of a trainer, with an ambulatory family practice focus occurs throughout the internship year. Interns establish their own panel of patients in the St. Joseph Community Care Center. The program is designed to allow the intern to matriculate into the Family Practice Residency.

Internal Medicine Specialty Track Internship
This internship may be utilized as the first year of the internal medicine residency. The intern rotates through 24 weeks of internal medicine or medical subspecialties, family practice, general surgery, emergency medicine, pediatrics, obstetrics/gynecology, and nights. There is also a continuity of care ambulatory experience in which the intern sees patients one-half day per week in the St. Joseph Community Care Center with supervising trainer.

St. Joseph Health Center is a member of the Centers for Osteopathic Research and Education (CORE) system. This affiliation brings together several teaching hospitals and Osteopathic Medicine colleges.

The Centers for Osteopathic Research and Education (CORE) system is an integrated statewide medical education consortium formed by affiliations between OU-COM and teaching hospitals in Ohio, as well as other colleges of osteopathic medicine nationwide.

This infrastructure supports and promotes excellence in the continuum of osteopathic medical education that begins with matriculation at an osteopathic medical school and extends through residency training and beyond into continuing medical education. All CORE partners are linked via real-time videoconferencing and distance learning technology as well as global, interactive, online Internet access.
