According to the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, more than 100 million Americans regularly fail to get a good night's sleep. Many of these Americans are children, and their failure to sleep through the night causes problems in their lives as well as the lives of their families.
St. Elizabeth's Diagnostic Sleep Lab now offers its services to children and toddlers at our Boardman location.
Our physicians and staff members have the specialized training and experience necessary to diagnose and treat parasomnias, the category of sleep disorders most commonly diagnosed in children.
Parasomnias that can be diagnosed in our seven-bed, newly updated laboratory include:
Nightmares
Sleepwalking
Sleep terrors
Bedwetting
Rhythmic movement (head banging, body rocking)
Other sleep problems that can be diagnosed are:
Sleep Apnea
Narcolepsy
Bruxism
Periodic Leg Movement Disorder/Restless Legs Syndrome
Sleep-related eating/drinking
Sleep-related seizures
Sleep Studies
All sleep studies are performed with a doctor's order. A specially trained technologist prepares the child for the study, and special pediatric equipment is used for testing. A pediatric waiting area with play space, a parent's lounge, a parent's bed in the testing suite, and refreshments make the procedure as child-friendly as possible.
A board-certified physician, specially trained in pediatrics, interprets all sleep studies for children under the age of 4. Technicians monitor the child via closed circuit television, and results are released to the reading physician within one working day of the test.
Scheduling:
If you have questions regarding scheduling, please contact the sleep laboratory at 330-726-0771. Phones are answered from 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday, and voice messages may be left at any time.
Your physician can fax your referral to 330-726-0774. We will contact you to set up the test date.
We will be happy to check your insurance coverage, or assist with payment options. Simply call us with any questions or concerns. Most insurance plans cover sleep studies, as these are performed on an outpatient basis.
